As summer comes to a close, I'm reflecting on one place that was the perfect summer holiday as the UK slowly opened up out of lockdown. The Cotswolds has been on my bucket list to visit since I first moved from the USA to UK four years ago, and I was not disappointed. The Cotswolds are an idyllic fairy-tale like set of villages that'll make you feel like you're living in a Jane Austen novel. We made the drive down from Edinburgh for a three-day stay, which was plenty of time for us to take in the views, history, food and more. We stayed at the Frogmill, which served as our base to visit the surrounding villages in the cotswolds: Stow-on-the-Wold, Daylesford farm, Lower Slaughter, and Bibury village. We rented a car so that we could visit as many spots as possible, as public transportation is limited. Our first day was spent relaxing at the hotel as we arrived late afternoon, and enjoyed their selection of wines while we prepared for our next two days.
Day 2
Our first stop was to one of the bigger villages, Stow-on-the-wold. Stow-on-the-wold is home to one of the oldest pubs in England, The Porch House, where we were able to enjoy a refreshing pint and glass of wine on a hot summer's day. After walking around and enjoying the local restaurants and shops, we made our way to Daylesford farm, a quick 10 minute drive from Stow-on-the-wold. Once there, we ate at one of their on-site restaurants, The Trough Cafe. We enjoyed a grass pastured burger, and the baby spinach, marscapone, soft herbs and manchengo tart. After, we were excited to walk around their garden section, where they had lovely selections of flowers and plants, as well as plenty of picture-taking opportunities. Following our visit from Daylesford Farm, we made our way to the Lower Slaughter. It's a beautiful village that makes a scenic walk to enjoy the views.
Day 3
The next day, we made our way to our last stop on the Cotswolds tour, Bibury village. Bibury village is what comes to mind when you think of a chocolate-box village. Walking up to a row of cottages, you can take in the view of a quiet stream, complete with swans and breathtaking scenery of nature. You can then walk up to the row of the cottages and get a good view of the village.
This was the perfect way to end our trip and head back home to sunny Scotland. Until next time!
